>After finishing washing and getting dressed, Rolla steps out of her bedroom to find her mother busy plating the breakfast.
You're up? Come finish your breakfast and go to school.
Hmm...
Upon laying eyes on her mother, who appears largely unchanged from her usual self, Rolla feels a mixture of relief and an unexplainable sense of sadness.
Her mother still positions the plates on three different sides of the table before taking her seat.
The two of them start their breakfast in silence, just as they typically do.
I'm done eating.
Rolla sets down the cutlery in her hands, getting ready to leave.
Suddenly, Rolla's mother does something unexpected to her daughter—she moves the food from the third plate to the one in front of Rolla.

I'll make sure to talk to your instructor about your graduation this week. Just passing the test is far from enough to secure an internship at the Science Council.
